Sidney Regional Medical Center is searching for a Cardiopulmonary Registered Nurse. This position will work in both Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Cardiopulmonary Clinics as needed. This is a PRN (as-needed) position with shifts Monday through Friday 0745-1715.

RN shall act as the patient liaison with the visiting Cardiologists; assisting with triages, medication orders and refills, as well as DME set-up. In Cardiopulmonary Rehab, RN shall be responsible for assisting patients with cardiac and/or pulmonary rehab following national AAACVPR certification guidelines.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation RN Job Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively between patient, patient's family, providers and other staff members of the health care team in evaluation of care to ensure continuity of care.
  • Collects, evaluates, analyzes, documents and prioritizes pertinent patient data, using the full range of patient needs - physical, psycho social, spiritual, education and discharge needs.
  • Follows provider order and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment and/or procedure such as type and duration of exercise and education.
  • Assesses tolerance of activity levels, collaborates with other team members and makes recommendations/referrals regarding appropriateness of return to work or ADLs.
  • Completes ongoing patient assessments as determined by patient condition. Individual Treatment Plans are completed in accordance to CMS and AACVPR standards. Initial and 30 day ITPs are completed to re-prioritize care and sets new goals based on new information and patient progress.
  • Involves and provides information to family and/or significant individuals in assessment activities and patient progress and condition.
  • Performs initial assessments and initiates communication with health care team members regarding treatment planning; i.e. nutrition, psychosocial, medications, etc.
  • Collaborates with staff and appropriate resource persons to formulate and update individual treatment plans (ITPs) to work towards positive patient outcomes.
  • Shall be competent in all exercise equipment usage in Cardiopulmonary Rehab area prior to instructing patient use.
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of arrhythmia interpretation and cardio-pulmonary risk factor education.
  • Shall follow Cardiopulmonary Guidelines set forth by CMS regulations and the American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
  • Shall be responsible for scheduling, documenting and charging appropriately in electronic medical record and LSI system.
  • Shall be responsible for maintaining and reviewing authorization and scheduling workques in electronic medical record system.
  • Shall be willing to cross train and supervise Pulmonary Rehab exercise sessions if needed.

Specialty Clinic Cardiopulmonary Job Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively between patient, patient's family, providers and other staff members of the health care team in evaluation of care to ensure continuity of care.
  • Collects, evaluates, analyzes, documents and prioritizes pertinent patient data, using the full range of patient needs - physical, psycho social, spiritual, education and discharge needs.
  • Follows provider order and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment and/or procedure such as type and duration of exercise and education.
  • RN is responsible for collaborating with Cardiopulmonary Clinic Staff on prepping Cardiology and Pulmonology Clinics. Cardiopulmonary staff shall be responsible for patient call reminders, and finalizing schedules. Shall be responsible for ensuring all documentation, orders, results and non-SRMC medical records are entered appropriately in patient accounts.
  • Shall document all required patient information into the Electronic Health Record accordingly to Meaningful Use standards.
  • RN shall demonstrate competency in performing Cardiac Testing (i.e. Stress Testing, EKGs, Pacemaker Checks, Blood Pressure, SpO2 Checks, etc.)
  • RN shall be responsible for initiating and running intravenous medications during cardiac testing.
  • RN shall be responsible for the care of patients and assisting the Cardiologist during cardioversions and TEE procedures.
  • RN shall be responsible for assisting patients and providers with medication refills, prescription entry and e-scripts.
  • Cleans clinic instruments and equipment, and maintains stock of supplies (i.e. crash cart monthly checks).
  • RN shall complete clinic encounters and enters charges appropriately in electronic medical record.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily charting, department billing, pre-authorizations, medical necessity and chart audit adjustments per hospital standards.
  • Regular attendance.
  • PTO requests shall follow department guidelines and shall be approved by the Cardiopulmonary Director. Must collaborate with other cardiopulmonary staff members to ensure clinics and rehabs are staffed appropriately.

Education & Experience:

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited Registered Nurse Nursing program.
  • Experience: RN must possess a strong knowledge of cardiac arrythmia interpretation and cardiopulmonary risk factors.
  • Required licensure/certification: Hold a current, unencumbered and valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska. Must hold current certification of Basic Life Support, {BLS} and Advanced Cardiac Life Support {ACLS} and Pediatric Cardiac Life Support {PALS} . If certifications are not current, RN shall participate in classes offered at SRMC.
